A knocked-out permanent tooth needs urgent dental attention.
Treat it as urgent
A knocked-out adult tooth is a dental emergency. Seek urgent dental care even if you cannot find the tooth. The advice for a permanent tooth differs from the advice for a baby tooth: a knocked-out baby tooth should never be put back into its socket.
Handle the tooth carefully
If you find a permanent tooth, hold it by the crown, which is the visible white part, rather than the root. If dirty, rinse it gently in milk, saline or saliva. If it goes back into place easily, it may be reinserted; do not force it.
Keep it moist while seeking care
If reinsertion is not possible, keep the tooth in milk or saliva and get urgent dental help. Do not wait for a routine booking reply. This information does not confirm that the clinic offers emergency trauma treatment or splinting; urgent availability must be established directly.
