Explore oral hygiene and reasons to seek a dental assessment.
There can be several causes
Bad breath may be linked to foods, smoking, dry mouth or oral health problems such as gum disease, decay or infection. Some causes are outside the mouth. A change in breath does not identify the cause by itself, and covering it with a strong flavour does not explain it.
Review cleaning habits
Regular brushing with fluoride toothpaste, cleaning between teeth and gently cleaning the tongue can help oral hygiene. Avoid scrubbing so hard that gums or the tongue bleed. Ask the dentist to review technique if you find cleaning uncomfortable or are unsure how to reach particular areas.
Arrange a check when it persists
Seek dental advice if bad breath continues after a few weeks of self-care, or if there are bleeding or painful gums or loose adult teeth. Explain how long it has been present and any other symptoms. Dr. Abdullah offers cleaning and assessment; no particular cause is assumed before examination.
