An assessment considers whether a wisdom tooth is causing problems.
Removal is not automatic
Wisdom teeth may become trapped or partly covered when there is insufficient space. This can be associated with pain, swelling, food trapping, decay or infection. A wisdom tooth that is not causing problems will usually be monitored rather than removed simply because it is present.
Position matters to the discussion
The dentist may use an X-ray to assess the position of the tooth and decide whether removal is appropriate. Some cases need referral. Dr. Abdullah provides simple and surgical extractions, but that does not mean every wisdom tooth can or should be removed at this clinic.
Ask why removal is proposed
At your assessment, ask what problem has been found, whether monitoring is reasonable and what the benefits and risks are in your case. Also ask who would perform the procedure and what follow-up would be needed. The decision should follow the findings, not a general rule from a website.
